PERFORMANCE

For more than 30 years, Hernandez has performed, acted, directed, and produced numerous productions, including plays, one-man shows, street theater/ teatro, experimental theater, radio theater, spoken word-musical collaborations, as well as leant his voice, stories, and poetry to musical albums. In the early 2000’s he co-founded the spoken word bands, the Central Chakra Project, and Brown Lotus, both of which recorded albums and toured across the Southwest. From 1996-1999, he studied street theater and experimental poetry performance with U.S. Poet Laureate Juan Felipe Herrera, and participated in workshops spanning a range of techniques and styles, from Commedia del Arte to the avante garde border experiments of Guillermo Gomez Peña, and numerous others. While an undergraduate at Naropa University, he minored in Physical Theater, with an emphasis on Polish Lab Theater and the Grotowski method under the tutelage of Bay Area based actor and performance artist, Edris Cooper. He’s since shared countless stages with performance artists, actors, musicians, and dancers such as Rennie Harris Puremovement, playwright/ performer Paul S. Flores, Grammy Award Winning composer, Eugene Freisen, Latin Jazz/ Reggae group, B-Side Players, Hip-Hop group 40 Watt Hype, the San Francisco Mime Troupe, and many others.
He is currently developing/ producing his one man show, “All They Will Call You,” a Documentary Performance that includes live musical accompaniment, video, and audio.
